Luz Got Baptized...
This week was super cool. A lot of miracles happened.
It stated off on Tuesday when I went on divisions with an elder named Elder Montero. He's from Chile and is a semi new missionary which is always fun because they love to do the work. So we went to this neighborhood where we generally have the most success and started teaching a bunch of people there. One of these people is named Luz and she had a baptismal date for this Saturday. But earlier in the week we got a text saying that she wasn't going to get baptized because her mom doesn't think that she's ready. The weird thing is, is that she is 100% ready. She's one of the smartest people I've taught and really understands the gospel and has a super strong testimony. So we made a plan. My comp and I went in there with the goal in mind to not come out until the mom gave permission for Luz to be baptized. We weren't going to force anything because at the end of the day Luz is her kid and she has the last say. But we went in taught a couple things and helped the mom realize that her daughter is absolutely ridiculously ready to be baptized. We ended the night with the mom signing the permission form. You could call it a dub. We were super pumped afterwards so we celebrated with a pizza that night.
After that on Wednesday we ended divisions and I got back with my regular comp to hit the grind once again. We went and talked to these people that we have on date for the end of the month. But before they get baptized they need to get married. So we went to the civil office and asked them how we go about this whole marriage thing. And got the paperwork that we needed. And then we went up to their house, in prior conversations they had said that they're all good to get married without a problem. So we shared a little lesson with them and then showed them the paperwork. They were super excited and were gonna do all of it in order to get baptised at the end of the month. After that we got on a bus headed for Asunción because we had a conference that we needed to be to.
On Thursday we had the conference. Learned a whole bunch of good stuff and I'm ready to apply it to my life as a missionary. Definitely a good time and always super fun to see the other elders and sisters that I haven't seen in a long time. Always good to see the homies.
We came home that same day Thursday and met with some people at night. But really we were just getting everything prepped for the baptism and stuff like that. On Friday we got up and went out to do the baptismal interview with Luz, of course she had absolutely no issue passing that. Then we spent the day finding a bunch of new people to teach. And it was great we found a lot of people that really do want to know more about the gospel.
Saturday rolled around and we were so excited, we got everything put together for the baptism and then waited for the people to show up. Usually in Paraguay everyone is late and I mean everyone. But Luz showed up an hour before her baptism which never happens they generally start way later than planned. But she showed up with her mom and her mom's mom and sister. So absolute win, they lady that didn't think that she was ready to be baptized was now the one supporting her the most. It was a super great baptism and after she got baptized Luz said, "wow this is the best day of my life."
We invited the other missionaries close by to come to the baptism and then afterwards we celebrated at the best pizza restaurant named Nappos. The other elders that came stayed the night with us and were going to go home in the morning. But one of the elders got super sick and was throwing up all night. Earlier in the day he had eaten some pig head that a family cooked for them and it wasn't sitting too good in his stomach. So on Sunday we did divisions part 2 were I went to Yagaurón for the day in order to help some of their amigos there get to church and then afterward go and teach some people that are really close to getting baptized. While my comp stayed in our area and took care of the sick elder.
We had a great time and the elder is feeling better so its a win win. Definitely a great week, can't wait for another one.
Also, happy birthday Dad and Sami.
Love you all
Easton
