Miracles...
This week was one of my favorites without a doubt.
To start off we had cambios(transfers) and super sad, but I have to leave Las Lomitas, I'm going to a ward in Asunción called Herrera, where I will be the new Secretary in the office. I honestly have no idea what that means. I don't really know what I'll be doing but I'll be sure to keep yall posted.
But now onto the important stuff. This week we found a whole bunch of new people to teach!! We found the Torres' a family where the mom is an inactive member who hasn't been to church in over 20 years and all of her 5 kids have no idea about anything gospel related. We asked them who Jesus was and they didn't know. So it was super interesting teaching people that honestly have never heard about these things before. So we taught a little lesson but more importantly we taught them to pray and then we invited them to pray every day and that we would come back in 3 days to teach them again. So we showed back up after 3 days and the 2 oldest daughters Lizzeth (13) and Nicol (11) told us that they practiced everyday and were so excited to say a prayer with us. Nicol said probably the most sincere prayer I've ever heard in my life. And Lizzeth who barely talked the time before because she's shy, couldn't stop talking and laughing!! We talked about baptism and I'm not even kidding you they understood EVERYTHING and said that they want to get baptized in order to be closer to Jesus. So in a couple weeks they're gonna get baptized. They came to church on Sunday and I don't even know how to explain the joy that came when I saw their whole family sitting there on the pew ready for sacrament meeting.
I also went on divisions this week with Elder Lopez an Argentinian. We had a good time, laughed a bunch, got rejected a bunch which made us laugh harder. Some lady that I talked to a week ago was in front of her house so we showed up and said hi and she goes "I DONT WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING FROM YOU GUYS" so we go "you don't want to talk about Jesus with us" and she goes "Absolutely not" so we were like ok and laughed our way until the next house. The people here make me laugh a lot because they will really never say no, instead they will find any excuse not to talk but this lady was super direct which was refreshing.
One day as we were contacting we ran into Amelia and started teaching about the restoration. She didn't have much time but she said "hey can you guys come back tomorrow at 4?" We had no idea what we were going to do the next day but we told her absolutely. So we went back the next day and she was so interested. She listened to the whole lesson and asked a bunch of questions. Just a super great lesson, it's always fantastic when they really want you to come back instead of low key forcing your way back haha. But Amelia is super cool.
The same night that we taught Nicol and Lizzeth we brought a member family with us to help us teach. And like 1 block from where Nicol and Lizzeth live we are teaching a girl named Amambay who is a friend of a member. We took this member family to her house as well. And Amambay had a bunch of questions. She's a 16 year old girl that is kinda lost in the middle of everything that life is throwing at her. And needs some clarity. Well good thing that's exactly what we offer as missionaries. So we were teaching and the members were sharing their testimonies and the spirit was incredibly strong. Amambay said she really wants to get to know more because she can tell that we have found something in our lives that she has yet to find. At the end we said a prayer and realized that it was 9:15 and we were like 2 miles from home. So we said goodbye to Amambay said goodbye to the members and booked it home.
Then at Church on Sunday it was all kinda surreal. I knew that I was leaving and after talking to the members it was just really weird idk how to explain It. Saying goodbye is something I've never been good at, and as missionaries you might think that we have accustomed ourselves to saying goodbye because of how often we do it. But how do you say goodbye to people that started as friends but ended up being your family, knowing that you probably won't ever see then again, until we're all up in heaven together. But at church we had a couple new families there with us as well as the majority of the people that have gotten baptized recently. And the peace and joy that came over me was insane to know that I had a tiny portion in helping these people find the joy and peace there is in the church.
Let's just say that I love being a missionary, I love walking for miles and miles everyday, I love getting rejected, I love working with members, talking with strangers, making relationships with the most unexpected people, I love sprinting through the streets of Paraguay at 9:15 in order to get home on time. I love this work.
