I Don't Like Your "Conditions"...
This week was great, super interesting not gonna lie.
My comp was kinda sick for most of the week. He lost his voice but for most of the days he felt good enough to go out and work he could just barely talk though. So he asked me to tell people that he just didn't speak Spanish and that way it's way easier to explain instead of explaining that he's not feeling good and having every paraguayan and their dog trying to give him some different grass or plant in order for him to drink in a tea.
One day we were contacting and we contacted these two girls and they were like super cold, didn't want to talk to us for anything. But one of them asked me comp "quieres agua por tu botalla" he acted like he didn't understand because he straight up couldn't respond so he looked at me all confused and I told the girl that he doesn't speak Spanish. So she responds in perfect English "do you want water for your bottle" and we lost our minds but after figuring out that they both spoke English they opened up to us and we had a really cool lesson about the restoration.
Another day we were contacting and this old dude was in his front yard cleaning up and raking leafs and stuff so we asked him if he would like some help. He told us no, but we asked him if he would like to hear a message about Jesus and he said "No because I don't like your conditions" we were like "what conditions" then he goes "all of the things that your church requires" so we go "the commandments of God" and he goes "yeah I don't like following those and because of that I don't want to listen to you guys" needless to say we had a good laugh.
But to be honest this week we took a lot of Ws. We found a couple inactive families that have kids that aren't baptized, who are super excited to get back to church and one of the families came on Sunday!! And the other family says that they are 100% gonna come this next week. We found a bunch of people ready to hear the message of God.
Particularly there is this girl named Amambay that we met who has been prepared by God like nobody else I've ever seen. Within the first couple sentences she told us "so honestly I'm not a fan of the catholic church because they just make me memorize things and I just want to have a relationship with God but they are not helping me do that" we told her that that is why we are here. To help everyone build their relationship with God, she asked how. And we taught the restoration and she was just kinda shell shocked. She goes "so you're telling me that if I read this Book (the Book of Mormon) and ask God if it's true he will really respond to me, and I can know that the true church of God is on the Earth again" and we were like "That's exactly what we're telling you" and she goes "well looks like I gotta get to reading." Absolutely amazing.
One of the best parts about the mission is finding people like this, people that want more than anything to have a relationship with God, that already want to follow Him and do what He wants, but they just don't know how. And when they find the right path they fly. At the end she asked us "the next time you guys come can I invite some friends that are going through the same thing that I am?" We told her absolutely. Super cool experience.
This week we also did some service together with the district. There is a family that lives around here and they needed some help cleaning up their yard, raking leaves, moving a bunch of wood that they use to cook with, all in all just cleaning up and organizing their backyard. We had a good time working with them. Super cool family and to see how grateful people are at the end just breaks your heart. I love what we're doing out here.
The mission is a once in a life time experience and it truly is amazing. I've been studying the Book of Mormon and lately the word diligence has been catching my eye. If we give our 100%, 100% of the time that's all God wants from us. And as we do that we will be blessed and never feel better at the same time. It's one of my favorite attributes of Christ to apply.
I love you all
Easton
