Weird Tasting Coke...

What's up everyone? This week kinda just flew on by.

Last Monday we went up to Asunción for a conference and it was pretty sweet. I definitely learned a lot and there's a lot of stuff I'm going to apply to my missionary work back in my area. I'll give you a quick update on the Niko challenge for those who are curious. I drank 18 liters, I was going to do 20 but I forgot my last 2 liters in the fridge and had to hop on the bus. But I can confidently say that I'm not going to drink Niko ever again. I actually swore off soda right after I finished but it's really hard because just about every member meal we have they always have soda, so I swore off soda unless we're at a members house haha.

Up in Asunción I went to McDonald's always a great time, and I found a Masonic lodge. Who knew the Masons were in Paraguay as well. Asunción was fun. It's always good to see a bunch of people that I haven't seen in a while. But after that we came back to our area and hit the grind.

Back on the soda topic, we went to a members house for lunch and they had coke to drink as always. And I was super thirsty, I forgot my water bottle, and needed to drink something, so I cracked open the seal, poured myself a glass of coke and downed it real quick. Just to notice that it had a really really weird taste. I turn and asked why this coke tastes weird and they didn't know so they smell it. And they said it smelled like gasoline. In Paraguay gas cans don't exist but you know what does exist? Soda bottles and these bottles are reusable, you drink your soda and then return your empty bottle to the store. Where they send it back to Coke to be filled again. Some dummy filled this bottle with gas, and then turned it back into the store. And idk how but it didn't get washed well enough or something. Because this coke straight tasted like gas. I should be complaining to coke and get some money or something but instead the family complained to the little corner store and got a free coke so we'll take that as a win.

We had divisions and I went with Elder Baldwin from Arizona, super cool dude, had a great time. And to make it better I think I met my favorite Paraguayan ever. His name is Carlos, and Carlos is hilarious, not going to lie one of the funniest people I've ever met. He's a fat, old dude that owns a mechanic shop. We stopped and talked to him and turns out he used to be a treasure hunter. Hunting for Jesuit gold he had some crazy stories that are way too long to type out but some crazy stuff. He also apparently saw the helicopter of George Bush flying around Paraguay and later that President Bush bought a huge plot of land in order to have access to a giant aquifer underneath Paraguay. At least that's what Carlos said. To end our conversation Carlos said, well I'm just going to tell you where I got my name from and then ya'll can go. C comes from Cristo, A comes from Aguila (eagle) king of the sky, R comes from Rosa (Rose) queen of the flowers, L comes from Leon (Lion) king of the safari, O comes from Oro (Gold) king of all minerals, and S comes from Sol (Sun) king of Space. And then he said, that's right you've just met the king of all and then busted up laughing. Absolutely love the guy.

After that we taught an English class that actually went very well we had a bunch of people there which was awesome. And we also had the Baptismal interview for out friend Liliana.

Liliana was going to get baptized this Tuesday that is coming up but about 3 weeks ago her grandpa died, which was really hard for her. And then just 2 days ago her other grandpa died. And she's really having a tough time right now. I think she's gonna push her baptism back to Sunday. But if you could keep her in your prayers that would be awesome.

We did a family home evening with a member family and it was super cool. We bought pizza and cooked those up in the oven and also made some red velvet cake. Mom I'm finally using that cake mix you sent for my birthday, so thank you. This family was doubting me the whole time because cake "shouldn't be red" and why on earth would you "put cheese on a cake" (the cream cheese frosting). They had absolutely no faith in me. But I should've taken a video of their first bites because their minds were blown. And they ended up spooning the cream cheese frosting out and just eating that plain because of how good it was. Needless to say they want to know where they can find more of that haha.

It was a great week with good memories.
I love all you guys and love hearing from you.

Our red velvet cake. It got really messed up trying to take it out of the pan.  The only kitchen utensils we had were two forks and a serrated knife. I had to cut the cake in half to try and get it out of the pan.  haha

Bus ride to Asuncion

I gave up my seat on the bus to an older lady so I just laid down on the ground.  I was out pretty quickly.

These power lines were exploding for like 10 minutes.  I only caught the last little bit before they shut the power off.
